Valley CAN First Year Anniversary Board Meeting
Community Learns of Organization accomplishments and Future Plans
Dec. 10, 2003 — Fresno, CA — Valley CAN (Clean Air Now) held an open board meeting at the Riverview Ranch House today to showcase their accomplishments to date and unveil future plans to improve air quality in the San Joaquin Valley. Board members, grant recipients and Valley CAN members presented the results of programs created to reduce air pollution.
"In our first year, Valley CAN has taken steps to improve air quality with the Business Recognition Program, grant funding and Tune In & Tune Up series," said Gus Freshwater, president of Valley CAN. "We want to continue this pace in the upcoming year by encouraging the community, air-related agencies and local businesses to work together to reduce air pollution."
The board delivered the First Year Report, which highlights the organization's accomplishments and suggests next year's course of action to reduce air pollution. Several grant recipients presented their programs' progress.
"Valley CAN has made it possible for us to create On the Air," said Joe Moore, program director of radio station KFSR, of their weekly 30-minute radio show that highlights various air-quality topics. "So far, the reaction from the public has been great and we are excited to explore more air-related topics on the show."
Each Valley CAN program seeks to improve air quality by forming partnerships with local businesses, residents and organizations that want to take voluntary steps to improve air quality.
"We've been able to create nine student programs involving Valley CAN and air-quality issues," said Tara Edde Guentz, vice president of development. "Our students will be working on a variety of projects that focus on ways to improve the Valley's air."
Valley CAN is a charitable non-profit organization created to help demonstrate and support real-world solutions for improving air quality in the San Joaquin Valley.
